On July 3rd, the Patagonia El Golf store in Santiago, Chile generously hosted Kris Tompkins, our president and founder, for “Un Futuro Parque Nacional Para Chile,” a presentation on the history and progress of Patagonia Park. The former CEO of Patagonia, Inc., Kris has visited stores around the world, sharing our story with thousands of Patagonia employees, fans, and partners. Though this was Kris’s first presentation at the El Golf store, she spoke to a packed house of more than 80 people, all eager to learn more about the project.

Audience members included Patagonia employees and local outdoor enthusiasts, as well as Marcelo Mena, Chile’s Undersecretary of the Environment, representatives from Fundación Chile, Patagonia Chile Grassroot Ambassadors Federico Mekis, Patricio Mekis, and Carlos Lieno, The Nature Conservancy, Ecosistemas, Futaleufu Riverkeepers, Urban Growers, Patagonic Waters, our friends from Patagonia Sin Represas, and many more.

The Patagonia, Inc. community has always shown great interest and support for Patagonia Park. Located in Santiago, the El Golf store is a popular spot for speakers, photo exhibits, and movies surrounding local and national environmental causes. Patagonia El Golf generously supplied visitors with organic snacks, as well as local organic beer from Cerveza Quimera and wine from Emiliana Organic Vineyards.

Kris’s slideshow opened with her experience as a young employee at Patagonia, Inc., complete with old photographs of Yvon Chouinard in the 1950’s, before answering questions about the founding of the park, the area’s unique biodiversity, and why this land is so important to preserve. The landscape images of the park in particular stirred up lots of enthusiasm, which we hope means we will have even more visitors to the park this coming season. The park will open for the 2014-2015 season October 15th– While it feels far away, our team is already planning for the coming year.

Many thanks to the Patagonia team in Santiago for putting together a successful event! If you would like to contribute to our efforts, we are accepting volunteer applications (for Chileans only) until September 1, 2014. For more information about our volunteer program, please visit
